FishingIt is not a secret for anybody that our planet violently suffers from the human activity. For the last century the situation has deteriorated so much because of the development industry and agriculture, growth of new technologies, and global pollution that the scientists predict the end of the life on the Earth in the nearest time. Overfishing is one of the great ecological problems on our planet. In 2010 148 million tons of fish were caught from the world ocean (The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2012). Overfishing started in the middle of the twentieth century due to the development of the ocean fishing industry when the total catches of fish increased by 400% (sea.org). Overfishing must be stopped by humanity since it may cause the crucial change in the global ecosystem.First of all, overfishing leads to the extinction of different fish species that are popular for their delicious taste or for their caviar (such as salmon, for example). It is awful, but poachers kill fish during the spawning in order to get caviar. They often throw out fish by taking just caviar. As a result, fishes are doomed to extinction without having a chance for reproduction. Besides, the use of fishing nets causes the situation when even juveniles are caught. They are not as valuable as adults that is why they often are thrown out. Then, the extinction of fish species causes the death of marine animals and birds that are left without food. Unfortunately, people do not understand that the world is a united ecosystem that can be damaged by extinction of several species. Sea lions, polar bears, dolphins, fur seals, whales, and seagulls and other birds play great role in our ecosystem. Some of them help to clean water, while others are served as a food for different animals and people. If any of them disappear, it will lead to extinction of other flora and fauna in the world. Besides, many marine animals such as sea lions, dolphins, fur seals, and tortoises get also to the fishing nets by mistake and die without opportunity to move and breathe. Video The Problem of Overfishing on YouTube shows millions of dead marine animals that are thrown to the dumps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqZA4FCm-es&feature=related). What is more, the death of some fishes and marine living beings leads to the pollution of the water of ocean and rivers. Thus, shellfish, cancers, crabs, and jelly fish clean the water by eating carrion. Some vegetarian fish, such as silver carp that eats phytoplankton, protect the water from silting. If we damage these species, the water of ocean, lakes, and rivers will be contaminated and other fish and marine animals could not live in such conditions. The opponents may say that overfishing is caused by the increase of the population on the Earth and we could not do anything since it is necessary to provide the population with the source of food. However, the statistics shows that only 128 million tons of fish from 148 …
