Thesis:
In the passage considered the short conversation between the Duke of Sheh and the Master takes place. The Duke of Sheh asks the Master about his opinion about the Government. The Master replies that the ideal Government should possess certain traits. First of all, it should ensure, that the people who belong to the country where the Government is functioning, have a certain level of well-being. Secondly, good Government makes the country attractive to people who are far.
Reasons:
Government is usually created by people and for the people. This is why a good Government should make their best to fulfil their functions and make the people who inhabit the country, satisfied with their living conditions.
Speaking further about Government, Confucius believed the best Government is the one which rules people on the basis of their morality and virtues, not bribery and corruption.
Confucius also believed that if people were ruled not by means of punishment, but by means of showing what the real virtues are, such governance will be effective and make the people of the country satisfied.
Analysis:
I believe that the opinions of Confucius on the questions of government are correct. The Government is an important organ which regulates many questions of the society’s functioning. Also the Government should do its best to make the level of well-being in the country. If we could imagine an ideal situation, all the people in the country will be satisfied by the existing conditions and the people from other countries would either want to follow the example of the successful country or move there.
