Service Industries de Genevde (SIG) is a large company that deals with various energy products. Initially, the people voted out the law, which brought about liberal markets for electricity. This rule planned the initiation of the market of electricity, like majority of theEuropean countries. Nevertheless, in the recent times, the court broke the domination of the distribution, of one company called Canton, which does not allow other markets in the country to choose their own service providers of the power in to their organization.

Afterwards, the Swiss government voted in a fresh version on the market for electricity. The main objective of the law was opening markets for an electricity supply, although with the main aim of providing quality supply apart from provision of liberal market. Moreover, they planned to open markets in two phases, first on customers that utilize a lot of kilowatts annually. Such customers will gain access to liberal markets and others will join latter after one year.

The law contends on transparency of price, by distinguishing transportation cost from the cost that customers incurs on its usage. They set up a regulatory authority, in order to control this phenomenon. It uses the accounting principle that distinguishes commercialization, distribution and production activities from each other. Supply remains a controlled monopoly and operators of distribution must charge cost of transportation, to the vendor or distributer (Stahl 89). It is done by independent regulatory authority, which controls the monopoly electricity markets. In addition, the suppliers must report on their prices and on their clients. The Swiss federal commission regulates the commercialization companies, since commercialization is a liberal market (Stahl 89).

Consumers that use lesser energy per annum, had to wait until after seven months to inquire for different suppliers of electricity, hence gaining access to new liberal markets. This Company is owned by the state, and it provides energy services to over two hundred and fifty thousand persons/customers in the Swiss Canton of Geneva. The company also deals with waste treatment and telecommunications.
