Drug and substance abuse is one of the major problems facing the young the generation. This has resulted to the society being in a bad state (Wills 2005). There are different strategies that may be applied in preventing drug and substance abuse among the young people in Riverton. One of the effective strategies would be to establish a peer counseling program in one of the social halls in Riverton. This counseling would mainly dwell in highlighting the negative impacts of drug and substance abuse. The program would also involve lectures from people who have recovered from drug addiction. This would automatically generate positive impact amongst the youth.

There are a variety of measures that would have to be conducted in ensuring that the program is meeting its objectives. Organizing one on one session with some of the young people would be an important strategy of measuring the effectiveness of a drug and substance abuse program (Mothner 2006). Conducting a statistical analysis of the youth engaging in drugs and those who are not would also be another strategy of measuring the efficiency of the program.

The outcome measures of gauging the effectiveness of the program would include a post analysis behavior and attitude program. This would involve analyzing the behavior and attitude of the youth after attending the program. This would be beneficial because it provide a baseline of how the program was in reducing drug and substance abuse among the young generation.

Conclusion

Most young people get hooked to drug and substance abuse and getting out of the behavior becomes a big problem. This should be avoided before the situation worsens in the society. Setting up drug and substance abuse control programs would be one of the crucial measures that would effectively handle the situations. The young generation is the future generation and should therefore be protected from vices such as drug and substance abuse.
