“Education can only flourish in an atmosphere of order and respect for all students.” (Quin et al., 2000). However, when a child manifests emotional and behavioral problems, this could lead to negative implications not only for this child, but also for children of the same age. In my placement I faced a child who always refuses to go to the restroom before gym, lunch or naptime. She always says no and cries that she doesn’t want to go. As I want to develop in this four-year old child the firm base for future educational process I decided to examine the roots of such behavior. For this I tried to establish closer contact with the girl and noticed that she is very constrained and does not want to meet my initiative. I also observed her communicating with peers and I was obvious of the fact that she became less sociable within her group. The girl seems the most affected by her behavior that could have been caused by teacher’s or children’s offensive words or remarks. Her behavior might also have resulted from an incident, when she had wet herself and other kids were laughing. The teacher used her as a bad example of how important it was to go to restroom in time. Difficulties with her behavior have been lasting since then.

The first thing to do in this situation is to know the reason. Initially I would like to collaborate actively with the child’s parents in order to overcome this issue. So it’s important to inquire about common toilet habits at home; if parents had trained her to use toilets before, or the child had been dependent on diapers and potties for a long period of time. It’s also significant to know if there is any source of stress for a kid in the family. Secondly I will continue getting on the right side of the child and help her accept accidents as normal things and that I could help her to overcome fear before toilets, if there is any. It’s essential to avoid rebuking in public too. Then I will discuss with all the kids our daily routines and depict it with pictures, placed on the wall. Among these cue cards there will be pictures of toilet allocated before such activities as gym, lunch and naptime. I’ll emphasize that everyone who wants to grow up big and healthy must follow rules.
