The basis of public relations firms discloses how different techniques of relating with information have an effect in production of new business and societal processes. Shaping information manipulates the public awareness, politics and government policy. In the early 20th century, Public relations developed in sequence with the growth in media. Radio and television presented a substitute for the newspaper with each new media presenting another opportunity to shape messages to listeners (George, 2009). The web developed in the late 20th century and substantially changed the field of public relations. An example where Public relations helped in communication was following wreck.

A train heading to Atlantic City in 28th October 1906 fell in twenty feet of water and left more than fifty people dead. After this accident, an associate in a new public relations firm, ivy lee, encouraged the Pennsylvania railroad to give a statement to the press concerning what had happened. Companies started addressing issues that were crucial to them. They realized that, they can be able to structure information to formulate a positive outlook of their companies through having a transparent communication with the public. Lee set up a significant constituent to any public relations firm, when he created what people believe to be the first press release ever (George, 2009).

The development of public relations changed the affiliation between public information and companies. Through the public relations actions, the interests of a company translated into a language that the public understands and in the service of organizational objectives (George, 2009). A press release remains a crucial device for drawing the awareness of the media to a remarkable piece of information. In today’s media, tragedies get remarkably different coverage because fragmented information ecology has reestablished the capability to shape information to fabricate views (George, 2009).
