I. INTRODUCTIONIn his article “Culture War”, Morris Fiorina argues that despite of widespread opinion about the deep division and polarization among American population it is actually not that case. Indeed, it turns out that the vast majority of citizens are likely to be much moderate than it is thought. This concerns even on what is depicted as the most controversial issue, abortion. The point is that the political class as people involved in everyday politics is much more polarized than the general public. II. BODYThe strength of this text is its contentment of data, especially sociological, and thorough analysis of real differences between public opinions that are perceived as polar ones. It was based on assay of different groups by age, education, race, religion, gender, party-id, and a big deal of other areas. The weakness of this text, in my opinion, is that underestimation of such factor as correlation between rural and urban population. It appears to me that precisely there can be found the deepest polarization of the American society.If I could talk with the author I would ask him why there is no real alternative among American political spectrum. The dominance of bipartisan system and weakness of “independents” can cause some conservation of political system in the United StatesThis reading fits in with our classroom discussion of gap between different people’s stance and our common duty to respect other points of view if it is within the framework of legal system.III. CONCLUSIONIn conclusion, my overall impression of the assigned reading is its high quality, obvious professionalism of author.
