The C Above High C is a dramatic play by Ishmael Reed. The play introduces Louis Armstrong, an African American musician of the 1950s. An African American person is chosen not occasionally – the reason is that the elements of the play are aimed at dealing with the issue of racial differences. The character and his behavior promote the main idea of the play, demonstrating the difficulties and disappointments which are faced by people who are treated unfairly on the basis of their race.

Eisenhower, who is portrayed to be the President of the United States of America is different form the protagonist by the background, race, and many other issues, is one more element of the play who is involved in the problem of racism and racial attitudes (Racial Differences in Ishmael Reed’s The C above High C”).

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde is one more play which deals with topics which are important in real life. Similarly to the previous play, this one contains elements which were used by Wilde to deliver the main idea and even several of them. For example, the second’s play protagonist calls himself “Ernest”, which is not his real name and additional sign that he leads a double life (Bradford, 2012).

Dealing with the first play, it is necessary to mention that difficulties which are faced by the protagonist are not faced by African American people only, but they are experienced by representatives of other minorities and the text encourages the readers to stop unfairness.

It is impossible to choose the play which is more reliant on performance elements than the other because each one of them contains only those elements which are aimed at promotion of the main topics and main ideas which the playwrights want to deliver.

This fact contributes to understanding of the play as a written text as it encourages analyzing every element and thinking over its aim (Bradford, 2012; Racial Differences in Ishmael Reed’s The C above High C”).
