Shared environment defines the environmental factors, which are responsible for resemblance among family members (Vito & Maahs 67). This term is employed in the twin technology, which utilizes a known degree of relatedness among individuals developed together in the same environment or home. However, this does not refer to the physical environment but the genetic environment. Periodically, it has been realized that the physical surroundings of a person may shape the way one thinks or does things. However, this is only temporary because as soon as one abandons that environment, he or she can be easily cultured by the new surroundings. Therefore, criminal investigators have resolved to the use of genetic environment, which cannot be altered. Owing to this fact, they rely on relatives to perceive the way a criminal might be thinking.From this, criminal investigators are able to use the information they acquire from one party and analyze it in order to find patterns and clues to another person’s situations. This can also be used to determine many individual characters such as timing, leisure habits, and many others. Shared environment proves to be a crucial aspect in the genetic criminology for a number of factors. First, the information gathered through this method is reliable. This is because it information gets obtained from a person with characteristics such as the one getting hunted. Second is that the information gets acquired fast and does not require much study or analysis as they directly translate to the person in question or under hunt (Miller 46).
