The title of an article I have chosen for my analysis is “Russia’s Local Elections: Politics in Spite of Putin” by Vladimir Kara-Murza. The article was published in a journal “World Affairs”. Date of the issue - September- October 2012. The article gives the reader very detailed picture of Putin’s policy. Additionally, the article reviews the current state of Russia’s local elections. This article discusses some of the challenges faced by Russia. One of these challenges are the political games of Russian leaders. In order to prove his statement, Kara-Murza, the author of the article, makes a retrospective analysis of Russian politics starting with Nikita Khrushchev’s times and finishing with the analysis of President Medvedev’s present-day policy. The article describes some of the coupling issues that arise when the country tries to forget its totalitarian past. In fact, after reading the article it became clear that Russian presidents did almost nothing to change the current politics of the country. Even now Russian lacks democracy and transparent elections. This fact has been strongly accentuated in the article by Kara-Murza. He proves his statement with the following words: “Soviet leaders had a poor record of keeping their promises” the beginning phrase is self explanatory. Medvedev’s “hundred years” of stability do not make sense. Such politics do not give any chances for Russian people to enjoy free elections like other democratic states actually do. It is also very difficult to predict what will happen to Russian people if their presidents will follow their politics. Drawing on the assertion-based language used in this article, it is clear that Russia is not likely to achieve any progress in the future. The author proves his point by giving the reader a very detailed analysis of Russian elections and current policy of Russian politicians.
