People all over the world like to watch interesting films: comedies, dramas, melodramas, horror films, thrillers, historical films etc. All of them have a specific purpose –to effervesce spirits, to soothe, to produce a romantic mood, to make laugh or to teach. There are a great number of masterpieces which are able to attract so strong, that having watched one time a person cannot help watching one more time; but there are also films which have a deep sense and set thinking about the meaning of life. Such type of films sometimes can be very hard to watch, these works are full of emotions and they leave painful impression after all. They are not created to intimidate, but to show the real events which take place in our life. “Saving Private Ryan” is just the right film to confirm it. “Saving Private Ryan” is an American epic war film about the invasion of Normandy in World War II. The old veteran of war tells about the events which took place in 1944. The story begins with the typist who noticed that the family Ryan would get the notifications about death of three of four sons on the same day. George Marshall, having known about that, wants to relieve mother’s pain and to send the fourth son back home. James Ryan is a parachuter, he fights against enemies. The intercommunication was lost and no one knew what had happened, as Ryan gained the rear. Captain John Miller gets an order to find Ryan and bring him back to headquarters. Miller takes an experienced detached force and sets out. In the first village one of his privates was killed and captain finds out that Ryan, he has already found, is just a person bearing the same family name. Miller finds James’ brother-soldier, who told that Ryan was sent to the village Ramelle to save the strategically important bridge. After misfortunes, hardships and murders Miller finally finds Ryan, who does not want to leave his friends and is ready to fight till the end. Captain cannot resist such a decision and help a small group of soldiers to make an ambush for the enemies. After a few hours 50 Germans came with strong equipment to seize the bridge. They killed almost everyone, but in this very time American soldiers received long-awaited help. Unfortunately, Miller gets a fatal wound, he whispers to Ryan “James, earn this. Earn this”. The film ends with the returning to the old veteran whose name is James Ryan. Watching the movie I easily forgot about my location and truly believed that I was a participant of the movie events and saw everything with my own eyes. Such effect is provided because of the fact that the film is really historically accurate. Steven Spielberg worked hard upon every detail in the film to make it truthful and to make the audience see and feel the war just as it was indeed. For such a purpose he worked mainly in …
