Ruchti, L 2010, “Doing Gender Diversity: Reading in Theory and Real-World Experience”, Sociological Viewpoints, spring volume.

Making a review of Doing Gender Diversity: Reading in Theory and Real-World Experience by Rebecca Plante and Lis Maurer, author of the article views gender as a category of analytical type which helps explain society. Ruchti claims, that the gender diversity knowledge can be divided into three groups – basic data, microcosm, and macrocosm. Such perspective helps the readers to understand the complexity of the phenomenon and become aware about its various details.

Baugher, D & Varanelli, A & Weisbord, E 2000, “Gender and Culture Diversity Occurring in Sell-Formed Work Groups”, Journal of Managerial Issues, vol. 12, no. 4.

Baugher and Varanelli view gender as an aspect which might influence work in organizations and which might be influenced by this work. In such case the issue of gender diversity is represented by diverse groups which are involved.

Authors of the articles develop three hypotheses which deal with diversity and work groups, prove these hypotheses and after this explain how the results of the research might be implemented in order to improve the gender diversity situation.

Wrigley, B 2008, “Gender and the Media/Communicating Gender Diversity: A Critical Approach”, Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, vol. 63, no. 1.

Author of the article, similarity too many others, provides brief review of the books which are dealing with the issue of gender diversity. What is interesting about the work is that it calls the readers to rethink the whole notion of gender as something which has more of a continuum and less of a dichotomy. Wrigley also provides an exercise to demonstrate the importance of such rethinking both for separate individuals and for the society.

Karahalios, M 2006, “Cases in Gender and Diversity in Organizations”, Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, vol. 11, no. 3.

A vast literature review is performed by Karahalios in order to investigate the issues of gender and diversity. Special attention is paid to the cases of sexual discrimination at work, imbalance which is caused by work life, and impact of such factors as programs which promote organizational diversity, cross cultural diversity, and entrepreneurship.

Shah, H 2005, “Media, Gender and Identity: An Introduction/Race, Gender, Media: Considering Diversity across audiences, Content, and Producers”, Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, vol. 59, no. 4.

Exploring the issue of gender and diversity, Shah reviews two books. These are Media, Gender, and Identity: An introduction by David Gauntlett, and Race, Gender, Media: Considering Diversity across Audiences, Content, and Producers by Rebecca Ann Lind.

The books are different, so their review and comparison, which is provided by the author of the article, allows the readers to view the issue of gender diversity from two different perspectives. The article does not only provide summaries of the books, but it also encourages reading them and prepares the students for reading both books.
