Chapter 7 of the second book by Confucius is devoted to the issue of filial piety. The philosophical and moral rules on the issue are expressed through such saying as "Let relaxation and enjoyment be found in the polite arts.", "Let perfect virtue be accorded with”, "Let the will be set on the path of duty” and "Let every attainment in what is good be firmly grasped.
Chapter 7 is devoted to the illustration of the necessity to respect parents and ancestors. It is necessary to point out that Confucius claims that it is necessary to understand the cultural customs and not simply fulfil one’s duties.
One of the main duties of “filial son” is to make parents or ancestors be happy and not just ensure and their basic needs are met.
However, there is one contradiction of the writing, namely that Confucius addresses males in the first place. There is no direct mentioning of female duties on the issue.
