Introduction
Nowadays, aviation became one of the most important spheres. That is why aviation professionals must be skilled in order to perform their important job. Therefore, it is important to overview the aviation and its workforce and provide detailed analyzes and specific characteristics of work in aviation.
Normally aviation can be generally divided into two broad categories: commercial and general aviation (Hansen, 2011). Thus, it is important to define each category. To start with, commercial aviation seems to be connected with some kind of business. In fact, it generally refers to business that carries passengers or cargo for hire or compensation (Hansen, 2011). According to this definition, these usual airplanes we take to travel to other states and countries are considered to be commercial once.
Nevertheless, it is interesting to name the main difference between the categories of aviation. Thus, the key difference involves aircraft size as measured by the number of seats or the maximum permissible payload of the aircraft flown (Hansen, 2011). According to this logic, the more seats there are in the aircraft the further the plane is heading. In addition, when there are a certain number of seats it means the aircraft was developed for the commercial purposes. These carriers fly planes of 30 or more seats and payload capacities of 7,500 or more pounds (Hansen, 2011). This is a general requirement for commercial air flight.
General also plays an important role in the aviation training system and also provides employment for individuals with specialized aviation skills (Hansen, 2011). It is interesting that general aviation can be used for diverse purposes and even commercial once. General aviation includes firefighting, agricultural crop dusting and seeding, reforestation, insect control, aerial observation, business transportation, instructional flying, personal flying and parachuting (Hansen, 2011). All of these functions are important in the modern world. Nevertheless, this research will be focused on analyzes of aviation professionals, primarily of commercial aviation.
Employment
Many of us would say that pilot is the most interesting and challenging position in aviation. Nevertheless, pilot is a person, who holds ultimate responsibility for the flight and aircraft. Nevertheless, there is number of other professionals, who perform important tasks in aviation. Most airline workers are not pilots or technicians, two specialized occupation that the committee was specifically charged to study (Hansen, 2011). That is why it is crucial to define their major responsibilities.
To start with, there is an important position on board of airplane, which is an airplane captain. He is responsible for the flight and safety of the passengers. That is why he has a wide range of responsibilities. For example, he plans each flight with the airline’s flight dispatcher and meteorologist; together they check weight, fuel supply, weather in all portions of the route, and an alternate airport in the event of unforeseen bad weather (US Department, 2012). His tasks are extremely important for the safe flight. That is why he has a co-pilot, who assists him on monitoring important aspects before the flight. The Airline co-pilot, or first officer, assists …
