The second amendment to the United States of America’s constitution

On December fifteenth, 1791, the second amendment to the United States of America’s constitution was adapted. This amendment aimed at protecting people’s rights in terms of keeping and owning fire arms. This was along other Bills of rights that had been included in the constitution. On the other hand, in the year 2008 and 2010 there was the second amendment that was given by the Supreme Court. It said that individuals court own personal weapons and firearms which they would only use during traditional purposes such as self defense. However, people would not possess the firearms just like that; there were many restrictions and rules that the government imposed in order for someone to own a riffle. The second amendment also limited the local and state government just the same way as the federal government is also restricted (Amar, 2005).

The right to bear and keep firearms in United States of America is a natural right of the American citizens according to the American theory of a democratic government. This was an understanding of the United States Constitution’s Framers which was established in England and later adopted in the constitution. It was considered as part of interpreting the then written constitution.

They have a role to form militias that would assist in defending the country. This is also evident since citizens are also recognized to have police or military power that allows them to have police powers and can carry out their duties whether individually or as organized group during times of crisis (Rakove, 2009).

Apart from defending the country, citizens have also been allowed to have their own weapons so as to use them for their self defense. A person or a group of persons maybe attacked by unknown assailants who may harm them. In such a case when the police are not near to respond …
