This marvelous book has been written by one of the most prominent United States political researchers specializing in the US presidency Richard Neustadt. In the reviewed book the writer extensively applied all his rich experience which he has accumulated during his tenure in the White House, in the Federal Budget Office and in the Navy.Although the book provides standpoints which are inherent to the traditional model of the United States of America patriotic thinking, the book is very accurate from the historical point of view. It is clear that the author has spent many hours in the libraries and various archives delving into the chronicles, magazines, reports and military records. Some of the data revealed in the book (especially those recordings connected with the Caribbean Crisis) in fact do seem to be extracted from the top secreted sources. Personally I greatly favor this book because the United States Presidents administration is not always praised therein, quite often the actions undertaken by the president’s advisors are vigorously criticized by the esteemed author. Namely this impartial attitude of the author is the biggest attractiveness of the book. I pledge my word, that once you open the first page of this masterpiece, you will not put it aside until you will devour it from cover to cover.Although the book may outwardly seem a bit mold breaking, it still contains various conventional approaches and ideas. Notably, the author fervently hails with criticism the countries of the Warsaw Treaty and other global centers of communism and socialism, like Chine and Northern Korea. While democracy is viewed as the highest value of the current human society, the communistic and socialistic forms of the government are presented as the biggest threats to the global welfare and security. As far as the nautical code of honor and value are concerned , the book is definitely of great importance for the cadets and prospective officers. This book greatly facilitates in transcending the high morale of the past generations to the present cast of the US nautical protectors. Overall, the book is highly recommended to be read by those interested in the US and worlds history as well as in the political sciences.Bibliography:Thinking in Time: The Uses of History for Decision-Makers, 1968, Richard E.
