Ronald Reagan is known as the leader who was able to carry out dramatic political and economic changes. In fact, the changes came while he delivered his inaugural address.
On January 20, 1981, Iran let go of 52 Americans, held hostage for 444 days, a short time Ronald Reagan became the President, the event being known afterwards as hostages coming home (D'Souza, 2004). The hostages were put on an airplane in Tehran as Reagan presented his inaugural address. He could be said to be inaugurated President owing to his support of religious right, generally outlined as a social movement that reacted to the adjustment sexual morality by offering a conservative style of governance.
In the course of President Ronald Reagan's two terms (1981-1989), the government's military spending was very substantial as a result of the arms race with the USSR (D'Souza, 2004). However, Reagan endorsed considerable cuts in federal spending as well as tax rates. The budget of 1981 appeared to have the most significant decrease in the continual programs in the history of the United Sates, yet mainly since federal expenditures had increased relentlessly for 30 years in accordance with the nation's wealth. If that development had carried on, the governing administration would have expanded by roughly 25 %, taking one-fourth of GDP (Wapshott, 2007). Reagan was the first actual American President to stay alive after being shot in an assassination attempt on March 30, 1981 (Wilber, 2011). The attempted murder produced a lot of impact on Reagan's reputation. Polls showed that his rating rose to about 73% (Wilber, 2011). Reagan considered that God had left him alive in order that he might accomplish a greater mission.
Summing up, it should be said Ronald Reagan has a high and honourable esteem in the eyes of the American public for being a man of ideological stance and an introducer of important social and economic changes.
