Introduction

Progressivism was a social phenomenon in America from 1877-1919. At the time, America was grappling with several ethical issues which needed to be addressed immediately. The country had been pervaded by pangs of capitalism and a majority of society members were suffering. Working conditions for workers was poor. This was further exacerbated by poor remunerations and long working hours for workers. Unscrupulous business activities were the order of the day. Poor quality goods and exorbitant prices characterized the market exploiting citizens. Justice for all people regardless of their gender, race and socio-economic status was not ensured. Women did not have right to vote at the time even though it was their constitutional right. All these injustices needed to be addressed to make America a better place. This culminated in the rise of progressivism movement led by several renowned men and women in history. Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Robert M.
