In order to become an expert in the field of administrative and organizational activities, a manager should be able to supervise, coordinate, motivate, manage, support, and encourage subordinates, make administrative decisions, and bear responsibility for them. Manager’s abilities to use a flexible and rational approach to personnel, lead, inspire, and motivate employees, provide optimal solutions to emerging issues, efficiently manipulate financial, natural, and technological resources of an organization comprise the major criteria of their successful activity.
It is impossible to develop personal skills without unprejudiced self-evaluation and specification of job requirements. Self-evaluation includes a thorough assessment of personal abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Specification of job requirements consists in determining responsibilities, identifying criteria of knowledge and training, and estimating demands for the most effective skills and personal attributes. Therefore, managers should evaluate their strengths and weaknesses impartially, determine strategic objectives, and outline a roadmap. “Throughout this whole process, it is essential to set goals” (Field, 2008, p. 37). The process of strategic planning is an obligatory phase of a new career path. In order to implement positive transition to a new management-associated environment and avoid potential problems while performing a new job, an action plan should be designed.
An action plan is a written plan detailing all the actions you need to and want to take to successfully accomplish your ultimate goal. In this case, that goal is success in your chosen career. An action plan helps define the direction to go and the steps needed to get the job done. It helps increase your efficiency in your quest for success (Field, 2008, p.43).

In addition, a contemporary manager should be fully aware of the current development trends in the branch that his/her company specializes. They involve obligatory awareness of computer technologies, specific research methodologies, financial and demographic surveys, and perspectives. Managers should be aware of efficient management models in other organizations. In addition, a manager should be well-educated, skillful, goal-oriented, self confident, sociable, and sane. The necessary abilities of a contemporary manager useful to provide deliberate strategies are numerous. They include such characteristic features as quick adaptation to changing conditions and terms, creativity, ability to operate according to a plan set beforehand, honesty, readiness for unexpected situations, rational way of thinking, flexibility in communication with partners and hardness in defending a company’s interests, persuasiveness, and psychical stability.
Summing up, according to my self-evaluation, the most effective skills and personal attributes that I most need to develop in the next 3 to 5 years include: 1) sufficient knowledge of pedagogy and psychology, 2) creativity, 3) communication skills, 4) stress resistance, flexibility, and readiness for unexpected situations, 5) obligatory awareness of computer-based technologies.
