Executive summary

As a consultant in a HR consulting company I would like to present an HRM analysis and make recommendations to better align HR practices to the key business initiatives of the company. In order to accomplish the goal I will analyze the organization and develop a set of HRM practices. The analysis identifies the firm’s history, strategy, market position, and specific area of alignment; provides job pricing and compensation package; describes and analyzes the current and targeted work processes as well as the respective knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) required to achieve the organization’s objectives; incorporates a discussion of relevant technology considerations to achieve work output in the context of the organization’s goals; provides a discussion of the labor market and the appropriate labor law context; prescribes a set of HRM recommendations on the applicable HRM system.

Introduction

HR policies comprise an integrated part of strategic business planning to reinforce overall organizational performance. This enables an organization to use human resources as an invaluable source of competitive advantage. In the course of interaction between an organization and workforce, HR managers perform the role of mediators who manage and lead the latter to attain ‘mutual commitment’ (Walton, 1985). Organizational (managerial) paradigm is applied within the business context to shape the strategic planning of HR managers to optimally co-ordinate collective activity, and match workforce expectations with organizational capacities. At that, the best practices (including flexible working schemes) are widely applied to develop and implement fair and unbiased managerial approaches with the consistent consideration of the adopted policies, plans, objectives, and processes (Rhoades, 2006).

Asda’s HR policies are more than successful. They are permanently applied and implemented in line with the retail industry preferences and make the company’s performance genuinely effective (Paton, 2005). At that, Asda has established positive internal environment with the relevant approaches towards own employees to measure their successes and failures. Regular meetings enable every team member to express own viewpoint, influence certain development or decision-making process. This proves that the company has been maintaining a positive HR tendency aiming to treat each person as individual in a highly diverse business environment (Zneimer, 2004).

Asda is an open-minded company that widely promotes interaction incentives with general public. All the necessary HR data are permanently publicized and updated on a corporate webpage as well as reports, briefs and interviews with the company’s business leaders. As is evident from due analysis, Asda strives to implement and promote its HR policies in line with the management and motivational standards adopted in the retail industry However, on the other hand, the company actively applies own innovative approaches to boost employees’ motivation and advance their level of performance. Apart from training and interaction activities, the company provides the variety of bonuses, discounts and employee-oriented options to sustain a civilized attitude towards each individual in the company.
