Thesis:
Confucius’ passage assumes that the man can be considered to be superior only in case he is virtuous, wise and bold. According to Confucius, being virtuous helps the man get rid of anxieties, being wise makes him free of perplexities and being bold helps him snot be influenced by fear.
Reasons
Being influenced by different kinds of anxieties, feeling unable to find a solution due to a perplexity and being afraid of possible risks are conditions, which are peculiar to almost all people.
Thoughts and judgments, expressed by a man, who is free from anxieties, perplexities and fear are far more objective than the ones, expressed by all other people, so, it is much better to rely on them than on the ones, expressed by any other man
Analysis
Confucius’ statement is a right one. In case a man is dependent on his anxieties and fears, it is quite easy to learn his anxieties or fears and manipulate the man, influencing his judgments and deeds. If it is easy to make a man feel perplexed, it also means that we can easily manipulate his judgments and actions. On the other hand, if a man is virtuous, wise and bold, he is free from extra factors, which can influence him from inside, and it is complicated to manipulate him from outside. Therefore, his thoughts and deeds are far more objective and reliable, than thoughts and deeds of any other man. So, other people can use his judgments to deal with the issues, called forth by their anxieties, perplexities and fears. The only controversy here lies in the fact that it is hard even to imagine a person, who is absolutely free from all the types of anxieties, perplexities and fears, so, there is no man, who can be considered superior without any doubt.
