Introduction
Criminal justice is the process by which criminals are brought to justice; it includes processes that offenders are treated, and processes involved in trying to contain and prevent further crimes. The purpose of this report is to acquire knowledge on the criminal justice system in a community perspective. The report is based on an interview with the director of National Sheriffs Association (NSA), based on the programs incorporated to prevent crimes in the America. NSA is nonprofit organization, which serves the purpose of implementation of justice and prevents crimes. The interview is done to the director of NSA because in the scope of his work, he deals directly with crime prevention, works hand in hand with community at local levels to prevent crimes, and brings criminals to justice.\
NSA findings
NSA provides classes through NSI who teach interested Parties, on crime prevention, public relations and jail administration. They also sponsor crime prevention programs at national levels that also include drug-abuse prevention and neighborhood watch. Neighborhood watch aims at preventing crimes at a local level, thus preventing growth and fear of crimes. National neighborhood program reaches the local people by disseminating information to those interested in burglary theft and in reduction of other crimes.NSA reaches the communities through closely working with international association of chiefs (Armstrong, 2010).
The government award grants to NSA’s local programs, to ensure that their operations run smoothly in the targeted neighborhoods. Other funds are acquired from the small communities, to neighborhood programs, to help in maintenance of their services. Although, most of their services are less costly and sometimes free of charge as the government pays them. NSA offer services, which are costly because they provide comprehensive services despite their inability. This leads to inadequate capacity for effective services, and due to lack of funding in some other areas. Without this program, there could be fear of crime and insecurity in different communities. Due to this program, there has been improved life in U.S community, and improved community policing which is successful.
Conclusions and recommendations
The interview raises concerns on research on law enforcement; and increases complexity of the legal structure. It also shows that the elderly play an important role in community policing. During the research, it was quite hard to establish the actual costs spend due to multiple community programs, where funds are not equally distributed. Although many systems have been put in place to implement criminal justice, nationally and technically there is no agency with a mandate is primarily to prevent crime. A national agency should be put in place to assist local agencies in prevention of crimes. Some methods that can be used in assistance include; provide skills, funding the local agencies, technical assistance, and coordination and ensure improvement and continuity of programs like NSA.
