Athletes are people who train to compete in a sports occasion. There has been an observation that school athletes have a higher grade point average than non-athletes student according to the ex-vice chairman. This is contrary to what normally happens where student’s performance entirely depends on the majors. Some subjects tend to be tougher than others. Performance of the athletes being on the higher side compared to non-athlete student is totally coincident. Balancing being a full student in class and doing the same while in the field is not an easy task. Athletes have to set time apart for their practice and training. Athletes may have to nurse injuries after or during sports event. Flexibility is of uttermost importance if one is an athlete in the school team (Beal 7). Time management is a key factor that school athletes should have. There may be favors given to school athletes to avoid pressure that may arise. This is because they carry the school name higher by being the best in sports (Aries et al. 579). After all school are just businesses like any other institution. Schools will do all what it takes to market themselves. This study is going to uncover the differences in performance between school athletes and non-athletes using their grade point average as an analysis tool.HypothesisSchool athletes have a significant higher GPA of school athletes than those who are non-athletes. Second hypothesis is male athletes perform better than female athletes. Research questionDoes involvement in athletics affect the overall GPA of an individual?Do male athletes have higher GPA than female athletes? Is there a fluctuation in GPA of school athletes when there are many athletic competitions than when there are few?Boundaries of the statementA correlation design is to be used in the study. The study will involve top performing students. It will be assumed that top performing students is made up of both athletes and non-athletes. They will be sampled out randomly. They will be compared with other ordinary students (Mackenzie 20). The sampling will entirely depend on whether the chosen random top performing students want to be in the study. GPA of the sample size reduces if the required sample size is too small the study. This permits other athletes and non-athletes to be enrolled into the study. Literature reviewRelationship between athletics and academic performance has been studied in depth for years. The main studies were whether top performing students are in the school team to increase their likelihood of getting a scholarship. The findings were that athlete students are given more attention than an ordinary student in college. The key experts writing in this topic are Kanter & Lewis and James Beal. The finding is that athletes took more credit hours than other students making them surpass non-athletes in academics. The probability that athletes tend to star in easier subjects than other student was not put into study (Stegman & Stephens 37). This makes them balance schoolwork and sports.
