The report identifies that career management planning is a viable solution in the improvement of the internal management and succession problems of Air Liquide. These business strategies are threatening the productivity of employees and Air Liquide, especially in the areas of career commitment and talent erosion. The report identifies that the application of a career management strategy will assist in the creation of sustainable career maps. This will assist Air Liquide’s staff to keep track of their career progress especially during the merger and acquisition process. An effective career management process makes use of career exploration, career strategies, and career development goals. For Air Liquide, it is essential that the career management plan adopts a relationship between management process, employee development, performance, and behavior.

Career management plan is essential for Air Liquide during the merger and acquisition change process since, structure, processes and cultural changes occurring at the time, input on career systems. Career is of concern since it is a major life event, since it evolves around work, where work gives the sense of challenge, purpose, self-fulfillment, and income (Bernadette & Sheetal, 2008). Career is essential since work offers a sense of identity, life challenge, creativity, status and social network (Baruch, 2004).

Career management should be a priority for management, as it assists in providing employees training, career path and successive job that meets the needs and objectives of the organization. The HR can use career couching as a tool to assist employees to build leadership skills and develop career plans. A career map includes a realistic assessment of weaknesses and accomplishments, with thoughtful and custom design for personal self-development and learning plan (Baruch, 2004; Wagner, 2010). These maps will assist Air Liquide create a generic career management plan that not only considers professional development, but also encourages personal development. Personal development plans are necessary in today’s business environment where appropriate new opportunities are a requirement to survive in the flurry of layoffs. Today, professional development defines a career path that includes multiple paths, entailing various positions that build each other to assist an employee in the development and mastery of new competencies (Wagner, 2010). The basic tenet of personal, career management is the proactive directing of one’s career path. This is necessary given that literature shows there is a close link between career planning, professional enhancement, career strategy, and career satisfaction (Bernadette & Sheetal, 2008). Career planning is in correlation to career strategy, which in turn is in relation to professional enhancement, and professional enhancement is in correlation to career satisfaction (Chang, 2002). Professional enhancement will assist Air Liquide’s employees develop skills and intellectual abilities for the sustainable growth of their personal profession and that of the organization. Career satisfaction by professional development, since the latter is a motivator and gives an employee a sense of spirit.
