Introduction

Scientific and technological progress determines the increasing complexity and variety of work processes in different business spheres. Problems in development of working processes are to remain relevant, as a consequence. We can say with confidence that this trend will continue in the future. At the same time it must be noted that attention to development of an integrated approach to the assessment of the working process is insufficient nowadays. This assessment is to be based on the efficiency, primarily, which is about to reflect main results and opportunities of business processes. It is important to assess the status of business processes in order to manage it effectively.

The results of assessment of the work processes can be described by example of small investment company where I used to work. This company operates in the sphere of finance, stock market, in particular. I had been working as a stock broker and been authorized to execute clients requests, look after company’s positions on the market, negotiate with other investment companies (concluding deals by phone). This company is going through hard times, partly because of the crises in the market, partly because of the poor work processes that are used to be. Further, we will examine the reasons that caused inefficiency in company’s work processes.

Results of the assessment:

Lack of formulation of objectives

This point includes not only the methodology and philosophy of management, but also the psychological aspects. The thing is that the chief of an enterprise used to manage the business using only the basis of his experience, his intuition, his vision and highly unstructured data on its state and dynamics. If the manager was asked to describe general structure of his company and the number of provisions that he used in making management decisions, he would hardly do that. Competent formulation of objectives is the most important factor to influence on company’s success. In this connection, it was completely useless to set up an automated budgeting system as budgeting, itself, was not put properly and was not provided as certain sequential process.

Ineffective organizational structure and business technologies

A large number of unjustified additional costs and contradictions in the organizational structure used to be recorded. It was also about high manufacturing, high logistics costs, and the time consuming execution of the various phases of core business processes to be identified many times. The information system was not perfect as well, so the chief of enterprise could hardly receive relevant and accurate information on all sections of the company.

Resistance of staff

Employees resisted the implementation of automated business systems. This, foremost, was caused by several human factors, such as: common fear of innovations, conservatism, fear of losing their jobs and losing their indispensability, fear of greatly increasing responsibility for their actions. Managers which made a decision to automate business were to make every effort to promote the responsible group of experts, to conduct explanatory work with the staff but, unfortunately, they were not successful in it (Lawrence).
