PART A: As a manager, which actions must you take in order to ensure others take?

Having analyzed the mentioned case study, it is worth mentioning that manager should take certain actions in order to make sure others are acknowledged what to do in similar situations. First of all, referring to Harvey (2002), it is required to create several trainings, associated with safety issues. Each employee should be informed how to behave and which measures to take in order to maintain sufficient safety level at the working place and beyond its limits. Additionally, it could be useful to provide each employee with the file with actions, required in different emergency situations so that they can keep it wherever they would like to. Another rather useful technique is associated with implementation of different visual representation of the core safety rules at the walls of the office to remind about the required actions in occurring situations. Moreover, it would have a positive effect to conduct psychological discussions in order to omit fear of such cases’ appearance.

PART B: What do you think was the main reason for the production manager setting up a committee to assess the risks? – As far as the abovementioned committee included workers, supervisors and manager for the areas of manufacturing and distributing, the core reason for such committee arrangement was to inform the workers about such likelihood of injuries and compensation rates provided for it in order to make them think logically and rationally so that to re-assess the risks and establish the rates for hazards associated work at the company.

Do you think the production made a wise choice in the personnel he chose? – In my opinion, the production manager was absolutely right, since by choosing such participants, he showed that he wanted to acknowledge everybody, dealing with the risks, about such probability and the rates of compensation provided for it in order to make them re-assess this situation and come to common idea. As far as there are only 20 workers, it is possible to conduct such committees in order to solve similar cases.

What problems may have occurred with his decision? – As far as I think, there might be a sole problem regarding the compensation rates. The matter is that the workers from area of distribution before the committee had the same amount of compensations, established for the possible injuries. After this arrangement, they would have less compensation rate, as far as their work is not directly associated with the risks. This option may lead to different arguments referring this decision from the distribution department.

What problems were possibly avoided with his decision? – Having arranged the committee, including not only workers, but also supervisors and managers of the stated areas, the production manager avoided the possibility of arguing between the areas after the committee, as far as he provided the possibility to discuss inequalities referring to the safety issues during the committee itself.
