The purpose of this case study is obvious: participating in environmental protection becomes more and more important every day. A lot of studies, scientific works and researches are made to prove this point. This case study is aimed at the necessity of the community participation in environmental protection and management, and the detail consideration of the ways to implement an effective action.

There is a severe necessity of communities involved in the process of protecting the environment, because of great results of the mass action. Being together and well-coordinated, people actually combine their power and knowledge to protect the environment, and this is how they manage to succeed in their business. Therefore, the evaluation of the community participation in the protection of environment and management should be completed. The objectives of the case study are to review the variety of ways that community participation in environmental protection and management occurs; to review the potential environmental, social and economic benefits and to estimate the effectiveness of such actions.

There are a big number of ways for communities to participate in environmental protection in Australia: allocating land from the conversation, for example, by agreeing to refuse from converting natural habitant; participating in projects of environmental monitoring, for example, as members of advisory group supposed to provide a feedback to government; delivering educational programs; providing volunteer organizations; and, of course, participating in the community recycling, for example, in reuse of materials and products. There are, also, a lot of well-known organizations which are working for a long time and showing a great result. For example, Australian Volunteers International- the largest volunteer sending agency. (Eco Shout, 2012), or the Coastcare, which is an Australian partnership between the community, government and business created for understanding, protecting and repairing our environment. (Everyday Hero, 2012). Also, there is an organization of The South Melbourne Commons whose intentions is organic food, for example. (Our Community, 2012). The interesting way to recycle is proposed by the Cycle Re-Cycle Club: it is a group of enthusiastic bike-minded people who gratefully receive pre-loved or abandoned bikes, parts and accessories. (Bike Club, 2012) There are also the Foundation For National Parks and Wildlife (FNPW, 2012) and the organization of Australian Zoo Wildlife Warriors (Wildlife Warriors, 2012) whose activity is aimed at the saving and protecting animals.

Such communities usually work by the volunteer principle. This means that no money is paid for the activity and community does this because it is willing to protect the environment. Therefore, people, who participate in these activities usually are untrained and are prepared mentally and physically to spend a lot of time to become competent. Furthermore, the volunteering is a great opportunity for many people to actually start to act and participate in environmental protection and management, especially today, when the idea of volunteering is developing very fast and there is possibility and necessity to provide a wealth of environmental knowledge.
