While writing, especially, while making notes or under the time pressure, it often occurs that different types of mistakes take place. The mistakes can be grammatical, mechanical or stylistic. The first two are especially widespread and cause a lot of difficulties when not knowing how to avoid them.
To my three most common mistakes belong the following. As far as grammar is concerned the misconnecting of the verbs appears to be of some difficulty, for I lack of definite basic grammatical rules of how to connect the verbs correctly. The only way to get rid of this type of mistakes is to learn more, practice more doing lots of grammar exercises and try to pay attention to the verbs connection in literature.
To my mechanical mistakes belongs the inability to distinguish between the plural and singular ‘’s’ in the possessive case. The decision here is to read attentively the rule several times paying a special attention to the examples and try to provide own ones. Then it would be reasonable to listen to or read some extract underlining the cases of the possessive case and trying to explain their use. One more tip is to proofread the written text and see if the use of the possessive case is used correctly. If it is not clear and the writing is of huge importance it is always possible to paraphrase the sentence so as to avoid the possessive case usage, replacing it with the of-phrase, for example.
Confusing ‘then’ and ‘than’ can be also counted to the most common stylistic mistakes. Here it is enough to translate both words into the native language and reread the written text each time seeing is these two words are written in a proper way. It is also rather helpful to make two examples with these words, from personal experience, and resort to them each time it is necessary to implement one of these both …
