II: Perspectives on the Experience

A: Subjective Description of the Experience.

Answer: I enter the conference room. There are already some people in the room, they discuss something, but I don’t really hear what they are talking about because I’m focused on what I will say during the interview. The air is fresh and cool, because of the conditioner, but not too cold. I wait for my turn anxiously, but I try not to show that I am nervous. I really want this internship. Finally, the interviewer calls my name. I shake hands with him, smile politely, and sit down on the chair and wait shyly until the interview starts. The interviewer starts asking questions and I try to ask them truthfully and confidently. It seems like everything goes very well, the positive attitude of the interviewer really helps me relax and not worry too much. The interviewer then asks about my achievements and I stutter. I haven’t really thought about this question beforehand. I try to remember, but it really takes a lot of time for me to do it, and it makes me nervous because I think that interviewer might think that I have no achievements in my life. The rest of the interview goes fine. I stand up, shake hands with the interviewer again and walk out of the room trying to maintain my posture. I breathe out with relief and cross my finger hoping to get the internship.

Another interviewer calls the name of the guy in the suit who just entered the room. The guy shakes hands with the interviewer, smiles and sits down on the chair. The interviewer starts asking questions and the guy in the suit responds. The interviewer then asks about the achievements of the guy in the suit and he stutters. The guy is thinking about the question for two minutes while the interviewer is waiting. The interviewer looks through his papers and then looks back to the guy. The guy looks a little jumpy and no longer confident. After the interviewer asks his final question, the guy stands up, shakes hands with the interviewer and walks out of the room nervously. He breathes out the air and crosses his fingers.

C: Empathic Description of the Experience.

Answer: The guy in the suit walks into the conference room. This is my last interview for today out of twenty, and I really want to go home and get some rest.

I look through the documents and call the name of the guy who is the next on the list. I see that the profile on the guy does not really match the requirements the company has given for the internship candidate, so I doubt that the guy will get it. The guy in the suit approaches …
