Families play immense roles in education and academic achievement of their children. They also play an immense role in the cognitive, social and emotional developments of the child, which are crucial to the education of the child, and their success in school. Currently, society demand high levels of education and social standards, which necessitate the need for a decent education. The achievement of a decent education for children requires immense participation of the child’s family and parents (Taylor & Clayton, 2008). Studies and research have shown clearly that family involvement in the education of a child has immense impacts on the academic outcome of the child. Family involvement in the education of a child helps prepare the child in readiness for academic duty early in life. This at the end promotes the success of the child in school and later prepares the youth for college education. At the tender age, children whose families help them read at home have an easy recognition of the alphabetical letters. These children recognize the alphabetical letters and begin writing at an earlier age than children whose parents do not participate in their educational or learning processes. Children with family involvement have an easy ability of identifying letters and connecting them to speech sounds. Children whose parents, especially mother, use complex words and sentences have a high capability of achieving effective conversation in school, and they achieve high scores in literature-associated tasks, in the school. Further, children whose parents participate in school based activities such as field days and family meetings have high task orientation and quality work habits (Taylor & Clayton, 2008). It is also evident that children whose parents avail support during homework have better academic performance in school. Family involvement in the articulation or explanation of tasks facilitates children participation in education. These children also have a developed capability of seeking teachers or tutors help in academics. Family or Parents Are the Expert Regarding Their ChildFamilies face frustrations as they seek educational facilities for their children especially the exceptional needs children parents. Most families face the pressure from other families and friends concerning educational programs that suit their children. The decision to enroll a child for education does not come easily for parents. Parents and families act as the child’s first educators and teachers. They play an immense role throughout the education of their children. For the education practitioners, it is essential to comprehend that parents and family should be regarded as experts of their children. This will lead to a healthy relationship between the school and family. As a result, the two institutions will develop effective communication and collaboration targeted at facilitating the education of their children. This will ensure that consultations occur, and both parents and teachers appropriately participate in decision-making processes that touch on the child’s education (Donman, 2010). Regardless of the ethnic/racial background, social economic level or parents educational levels, children at educational institutions that recognize parents as experts of their children have desirable academic and learning outcomes. …
