How to save money while saving the environment

A good way to do this is letting hot food cool properly before storage. Uncovered liquid food releases moisture inside the compartment resulting in extra use of energy. Having a full freezer is more energy efficient as compared to an almost empty one. Filling containers with water and freezing them also helps in storage in case of power outages. Keeping refrigerators and freezers away from heat sources reduces their energy consumption.Amann, Ackerly and Wilson, point out that when cleaning using dish washers and washing machines, almost 60% percent of the energy used goes towards heating the water. As such, cleaning appliances that utilize less water are more efficient in conserving water and saving on energy bills (169). Energy savings can be increased substantially by using low temperature settings for washing and allowing the clothes or dishes to dry naturally.Electronic appliances both at home and the offices should be unplugged and switched off, if not in use. When in standby mode appliances consume energy, yet, they are not in use. Amann, Ackerly and Wilson also advocate for the use of energy efficient lighting which last up to ten times longer than normal lighting fixtures (185).Most of the energy resources are found in the environment.
