The US is known for many achievements in science and technology. American representatives performed great inventions. Many of them were from Ohio State.

Edward V. Rickenbacker. Edward V. Rickenbacker was a famous US pilot and aviator who contributed a lot toward Entente states’ victory in the World War First. He was of Swiss origin but was born in Columbus, Ohio State. His brave and courage during the war brought him the fame all over the world. In March 1918 as a member of the 94th Aero Pursuit Squadron Rickenbacker shot down nearly 22 hostile airplanes and four balloons. In general, he scored 26 air victories for the only one month. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Medal of Honor for his heroism. In the book Fighting the Flying Circus (1919) Eddie Rickenbacker shared his wartime experience. Undoubtedly, he was a hero of the world war first. (ohiohistorycentral.org).

Jesse Owens. One of the top American athletes of the XX century was undoubtedly Jesse Owens. He was born in Oakville, Alabama, but soon his family moved to Ohio. From the childhood Jesse Owens was interested in track and field. He had a chance to provide the professional expertise in this kind of sport during the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Jesse Owens was awarded four gold medals for his greatest achievements in light athletics. In Berlin Olympics he set four world records in the one hundred-meter dash, the two hundred-meter dash, the broad jump, and the four hundred-meter relay. Even Adolf Hitler, the Chancellor of Germany, admitted his success in games. (Knepper 421).

Pontiac. A great fighter for Indian liberty was an Ottawa chief Pontiac. Maumee River, which is flowing in Ohio State, was his place of birth. In 1763 the Ottawa chief tried to unite different tribes under Indian confederacy in order to make British troops to leave the Ohio territory. It was a large armed rebellion of Indian population against colonialists at that time. Many British posts, except from Detroit, were conquered by Pontiac’s troops. The Ottawa chief began a long siege of Detroit, which was new in Indian war strategy. Despite the suppression of that rebellion in 1764, Pontiac remained a hero in the eyes of his nation. Paul Newman. A great American actor Paul Newman was born in Shaker Heights in Ohio. He succeeded in film industry from 50th till late 90th of the XX century. In 1952 Paul Newman appeared on a TV screen for the first time starring episodic role in the “Ice from Space”. He starred in a lot of films: Exodus (1960), The Hustler (1961), Hud (1963) and others. In 1986 Newman played a main role in Martin Scorsese The Color of Money which brought him to the top of his career: He got an Oscar. In addition to this, Newman was nominated for a large number of different awards such as Academy Award, Golden Globe Awards, Cannes Film Festival Award and many others. (Britannica.com)
