Introduction
The members of the family I’d like to introduce are Alison and David Humphries. Alison was an accountant before settling down with a family and David is an architect. The family lives nearby Alison’s parents, Grandma Mildred and Grandpa Bill, who help the young family with their problems. David’s mother lives alone in an assisted living unit 2 hours away. She is not pleased with that as she is becoming is becoming increasingly forgetful and agitated. Both David’s sister and brother live separately from their partners and have children. Alison and David have three children: Michael, aged five, Sarah, aged three, and Jarred 6 months old.
Michael and Sarah have a small difference in age so a great deal of sibling rivalry is present between these two children. In spite of that, Michael pretends to be a normal child. He has recently started going to school, he spends time for after school activities. Besides, Michael is very close to his Grandpa Bill. He likes to go home together with his grandpa and there are no problems with this child, except sibling rivalry with his sister. However, Sarah and Jarred are just the opposite. Mildred dotes on her only grand-daughter but finds her temper tantrums increasingly difficult to manage and no longer feels she can cope with Sarah’s behaviour on her own. Besides, Mildred was recently diagnosed with diabetes, so Alison doesn’t want her mother to help them too much. In addition to heavy behaviour, Sarah performs frequent night waking. That also makes her mom worry about her. The most problem child is Jarred. During pregnancy Alison had complications that made her to have Emergency Caesarean for fetal distress during her labour at 35 weeks. Now he seems to be delayed in a number of key motor, language and psychosocial behaviours. Jarred is suspected to have cerebral palsy and he is suggested to refer back to his paediatrician. All the health and social problems of the family are summarized in the Appendix.
So, children are the members of the family that badly suffer from the social and health problems in their family. Alison is continuously stressed and also needs help and care. But all the members of the family that live aside are rather busy or have health problems that shorten the amount of help they can provide. In this essay different ways to overcome the problems in the family with the help of nursing care would be suggested.
Goals
While working with the family nursing care should be considered with both health and social problems. First of all, the most pronounced problem is Jared’s health. Nursing care should allow Alison to be safe about her child’s life and make her able to spend time at home. She has two other small children that also need her attention. Secondly, Sarah’s behavioural and health problems should be overcome. That would make her to be more polite with her grandma and become friendlier to her elder brother. The next goal of nursing care is to …
