By observing teaching practices in a group of children from 3 to 5 years old, it is important to point out four major characteristics such as age appropriateness, individual appropriateness, social appropriateness, and cultural appropriateness. It is important to note that the group of children consists of 2 Arabic, 3 Indian families, and the rest are American. Teachers are also American.

Of course, age appropriateness of teaching practices is extremely important as young children should only be exposed to activities that are suitable for their age. Due to this fact, any activities that are beyond the age of 3-5 years old should not be offered by the teachers. In this case, all developmental and physical activities were age appropriate and included such subjects as painting, singing, light physical training, and developmental logical exercise.

In terms of individual appropriateness, the teachers were good enough to take into consideration the children’s age as well as their cultural and religious background. For that reason, all books that were read as well as movies and cartoons that were shown included the elements of diversity and cultural development.

With individual appropriateness, the teachers were very much culturally experienced, and had an individual approach to all children depending on their culture. Even during the lunch time, each child was offered the food which did not interfere with their families’ religious beliefs. At the same time, they had an opportunity to get to know each other and share some elements of their own cultural background.

Finally, regarding social appropriateness, every family was treated equally and with respect. Each child was given an equal amount of attention and help.

In general, I think, the teachers were very experienced and skilled. They enjoyed what they were doing and had a great approach to each and every child in the group.
